Donations

The History Trust of South Australia is responsible for the State History Collection, a collection of objects relevant to the history of South Australia. Strengths of this collection reflect the collecting areas of our three museums: the Migration Museum, the South Australian Maritime Museum and the National Motor Museum. For more information on how and what we collect see our Collections Policy.

The History Trust welcomes offers of donations of items to add to the collection, and assesses offers according to the criteria in our Collections Policy. Please complete the form below, and a History Trust staff member will respond to you within 10 working days.

Any information you can provide will be helpful. We are interested in information such as: who made the item? When? Where? Who used the item? When? Where? Do you know any stories relating to the item/s? Or about people connected with the item/s? What condition is the item in? Is there documentation relating to the item, such as receipts or photographs of people using it?

Please note that the History Trust

  • does not accept objects on indefinite loan
  • does not provide valuations
  • does not buy or sell objects online

Bequests

Making a bequest is another way to donate an item to the State History Collection. If you are considering drafting a will which includes a bequest to the History Trust or one of our museums, please contact us first to discuss the item/s, process and legal requirements involved.
