Do you have a South Australian story to share? Now is your chance to register an event for the 2017 History Festival in May.

2016 brought us yarn-bombing, arcade games of the 1990s, Ned Kelly: the Musical, history in bars, ghosts, camels, rock & roll music, steam punk, murders, mysteries and so much more. What will you contribute next year?

South Australia’s History Festival is one of the State’s largest and most important annual community events. Taking place each May, the History Festival creates a platform for South Australians to explore, promote and engage with the unique and evolving history of our great state. Online registrations to participate in the 2017 Festival are now open to individuals and organisations wishing to promote South Australia’s wonderful stories, places and collections.

The History Festival began in 2004 as SA History Week and became the month-long History Festival in 2011. In 2016 the Festival attracted over 360 different event organisers from all around South Australia. With the goal of connecting the public to the depth and diversity of the South Australian story, History SA encourages participants to share their own unique slice of history in a range of different styles and settings. From songs to slide-shows, bus tours to bushwalks and in venues ranging from galleries to graveyards, the events are always fascinating.

History Trust of South Australia Chief Executive, Greg Mackie said, “At its heart, SA's History Festival is about people, places and their stories. It’s a whole month for the community to celebrate the links between our past and present.”

From heritage organisations, museums, archives, community and cultural organisations to universities, libraries and schools as well as churches, galleries, businesses, cemeteries, gardens, government agencies and owners of heritage-listed places, if your community has a story to tell, then this is the perfect opportunity to share it.

All events are listed on History Festival website and in the printed program. Make sure you register your event before 1 February 2017 to ensure it is included in the printed program which will be distributed state-wide.
