Edmund Wright House, the old Bank of South Australia, on King William Street represents a turning point in saving heritage buildings in Adelaide. Who was Edward William Wright? What is his legacy?
This guided city walk with Keith Conlon, Chair, South Australian Heritage Council, visits several state heritage treasures associated with Wright. The tour begins at the Adelaide Town Hall (1866), his first major project, and includes the GPO and Edmund Wright House. It ends at his grandest work, Parliament House.
As might be imagined, these buildings also tell us about South Australia’s rises and falls in fortune.
