Our sense of touch can stimulate memory. Participants will explore ways of creating and using themed memory boxes of historic objects for reminiscence and particularly for dementia care. Ideal for those involved in museums or local history groups, looking for new and meaningful ways of community engagement. We’ll consider the importance of reminiscence therapy for the health and wellbeing of the elderly and how memory boxes and reminiscence work has been integrated into museum programs both overseas and in Australia. We’ll also discuss themes, create some sample boxes, and work out what makes a successful reminiscence session and program.
