Join us to hear members of the research team as they share the research findings on the South Australian Frontier and its Legacies project.

The South Australian Frontier and its Legacies project aims to map the nature and extent of conflict between Aboriginal people and settler-colonists on the South Australian frontier (from the beginnings of colonisation to 1900). The project incorporates conventional archival sources and Aboriginal people’s and settler-colonist descendants’ oral histories in a way that allows these accounts to be heard.

The South Australian Frontier and its Legacies project emerged from the 2017 Uluru Statement from the Heart calling people to engage in ‘truth-telling about our history.

Findings from the project will be published using ‘Story Maps’ software. Story Maps combines digital mapping on a webpage, which incorporates multimedia, digitised documents, charts and graphs, images, audio and video recordings in an interactive way. Our presenters will discuss what their research has revealed about the South Australian frontier, and how Story Maps software will help tell our history.

This project is funded by the Australian Research Council under a Linkage grant. Presented by Dr Skye Krichaff, Associate Professor Rob Foster and Mandy Paul.

Partners in this collaborative endeavour are the History Trust of South Australia, the University of Adelaide, Reconciliation South Australia, the South Australian Museum, the State Library of South Australia and State Records of South Australia.
