‘SA Lives: Snapshots of Some Pioneers’ presented by Andrew Buxton, Historical Society of SA, History Council of SA, History Teachers Associations of Australia and South Australia

Inspired by and loosely based on ABC Radio David Bevan’s ‘Over for brunch’ guests and Richard Fidler’s ‘Conversations’ visitors, this talk introduces the audience to lesser-known South Australian pioneers with stories closely connected to important moments in South Australia’s history. It’s about putting a face to the names and telling the stories of some lesser-known pioneers.

The first snapshots include:

  1. Ann Williams, born in 1845 in St Just, Cornwall, assistant postmistress and publican, convicted lawbreaker, mother and resident of Kapunda from 1866-1941
  2. Alice Edwards, born 1892, youngest of 10 and pioneering Outback nurse and assistant Station Manager
  3. Thomas Humble, born 1896 in Adelaide, adventurer, pharmacist and veteran of both world wars
  4. Sydney Melbourne, born 1893 in Malvern, pioneer City Engineer, Town Clerk and Manager, veteran of both world wars
