What is Significance?

The ‘Home from Home’ vehicle constructed in 1929 by Pop (Gerhard) Kaesler from the chassis of an old Dodge tourer. It is considered to be one of the more significant items on display at the Goolwa Museum because it is accepted as one of the first motorhomes built in Australia.

Working with collections takes a lot of time, energy and resources, so it’s important to direct these things to the most significant items in a collection.  How do you know what they are?  Collection records (written and anecdotal) are a useful start as is the handy guide Significance 2.0.  This guide sets out accepted criteria and a process for assessing the significance of individual items, groups of items or whole collections.
